High Efficiency Particulate Arresting (HEPA) air purifiers have been utilized since their invention by the US Atomic Energy Commission in the 1950’s to remove particles from breathable air. Since they were first introduced to the commercial market, HEPA air purifiers have been used in settings such as beauty salons (for odor and chemical contaminant control), hospitals (to prevent allergic reactions and infection in recovering patients), and electronics clean rooms (where foreign air particles may damage components). Physicians often recommend HEPA air purifiers to patients of environmental allergies and asthma, for their homes and daily lives.
